Recreational and Social Activities

The following activities and changes will create more community involvement, foster community pride and ownership, and provide revenue in some instances. Giving people the chance to socialize within their own towns makes their houses feel more like homes. Events such as these will attract potential homebuyers as well as patrons from other area towns.

People flock to events such as Media’s food festival and street fair, and attend parades elsewhere, such as Springfield, Newtown Square and Lansdowne. Our teens have nowhere to go, our families have no hometown events to look forward to, and even our dogs have to go out of town to get a good run in a park! If other nearby towns can have some of these same activities, I see no reason why Upper Darby cannot provide their residents with the same opportunities.

International Food Festival to highlight our restaurants (see 69th St.)

Open Municipal Building and other township buildings for presentations from the Upper Darby Historical Society, fine arts exhibits, energy conservation lectures, volunteer clean up organizations, etc.

Summer Concert Series at the parks

Summer Movies at parks

Swimming pool, ice rink, roller skating rink run by twp.

Teen Centers with game rooms, ping-pong, pool, basketball

UD Pride Day (exists), but with more opportunities to celebrate and acknowledge our diversity

Holiday parades down a main route, such as Garrett Rd and celebrations at a park or school. Almost every other town does this, from the very small to the very big.
